Mississauga – A City To Move To?

by John Carlucci - September 28, 2023

Mississauga is the 7th biggest municipality in Canada, which means it is no wonder that thousands flock there each year to holiday, for work purposes, or to live. With a population of over 700 thousand people, this region is known for historic villages, vibrant artworks, a huge array of good food, and plenty of recreational areas. Is it a good place to start a family? Residents say yes. Let’s look at some of the reasons why Mississauga is such a nice place.

Mississauga – A Place Called Home?

Mississauga occupies the space just to the west of Toronto, the nation’s capital. The city itself dates back to 1806, but before then it was a large town known as Toronto Township, which was owned by the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

As with any new location you might scout out to live in, you should do your due diligence before you move here. Situated on the River Credit and part of the oldest held lands in Canada, this area is steeped in rich history and Canadian culture. However, you should always enjoy Mississauga by staying in short term rentals before you commit to moving there full time.

After all, you can do all the research you like but If the water doesn’t agree with you, then it’s time to go home. Short term rentals let you try out the town for size before you commit to that large scale, life-changing move of home.

Is Mississauga a Good Place To Live?

Before you go making any big real estate decisions, let’s break this down into manageable parts to research whether Mississauga is a good place to live.

1 – Local temperatures

The warmest time of the year in Mississauga is in July. The average temperature in the city mid-July is 78 degrees Fahrenheit, with an average low of 63 degrees Fahrenheit. In the three month long cold season, however, the temperature drops to an average of 39 degrees Fahrenheit. In other words, it is great in summer and frozen in winter.

2 – Education

In Mississauga, the Peel District School Board and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board call the shots. The area has many highly regarded schools both in the public and private sectors. The school boards focus on academic excellence, so your children are sure to receive all the right lessons.

3 – The Food

Since Mississauga is a bit of a cultural melting pot, you have access to some incredible food daily. There is a strong Asian connection in this part of Canada, leading to some excellent Asian food. There is also the Punjabi themed food found on Dundas Street, and options in street food from just about every plaza in town.

4 – The Entertainment

Square One Shopping Centre is one of the top places to shop within miles of the city. This is one of the largest malls in the entire country. Shop literally until you drop. There is a Living Arts Centre which stands testament to Mississauga culture, too.

5 – The Sites

Visit Port Credit and see the lake and marina. Head to the Bradley Museum to learn about local history or enjoy long walks in the town’s many parks.

Visit Mississauga Today

If you want to move to a new city, Mississauga is a great option. Our only advice is that you visit it first and see if it is right for you.
