L.A. art collectors to auction off Frederick Fisher-designed compound in Idaho

In the middle of Idaho’s Sun Valley, set on about 19 aspen-filled acres along the Bigwood River, a modern barn-inspired compound is aiming for $11 million — at least.

The sprawling architectural retreat, owned by Los Angeles-based art collectors Jake and Ruth Bloom, was originally listed for sale at $18 million, but will go up for auction on January 27th with a reserve price of $11 million.

Named Bloom Ranch for its owners, the home was designed and built in 1998 by Southern California architect Frederick B. Fisher. Fisher’s firm, Frederick Fisher & Partners Architects, has a catalog of work that includes the L.A. Louver Gallery, the Broad Art Foundation headquarters in Santa Monica and the MoMA P.S.1 in New York.

Fisher’s modern touch is expressed throughout the roughly 15,000 square-foot-compound. To give the retreat a timeless feel, the architect avoided using any molding on the windows or any baseboards along the floors, according to the listing agent.

Fir wood is used both inside and out, lining the exterior of the home and the interior floors. Gallery walls provide dedicated space for priceless pieces. A great room, an entertainment room and a circular dining room are among living areas. The restaurant-quality kitchen features a walk-in refrigerator and three wine cellars.

There are seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms.

Other amenities include a spa, massage room, steam room, dry sauna and gym. The home wraps around a central courtyard garden. Multiple patios, a saltwater swimming pool and a spa complete the grounds.

Jake Bloom is among the most powerful attorneys in Hollywood. He and his law firm have represented such stars as Johnny Depp, Jerry Bruckheimer and Nicolas Cage.

Ruth Bloom previously ran an art gallery in Santa Monica and was a board member of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.

Elite Auctions is overseeing the sale.
