How To Get Started As A Real Estate Agent?

How To Get Started As A Real Estate Agent?
by John Carlucci - February 15, 2022,

Working as a real estate agent provides a wide range of experiences. You won't be doing the same thing every day with different clients and various properties. You'll get to meet and work with a diverse range of people, be your own boss, and have the satisfaction of assisting buyers and sellers through one of life's most significant milestones.

Money can also be advantageous. According to US Bureau of Labor Statistics statistics from 2020 (the most current available), the median income for a real estate agent is around $51,220 per year. That price rises to $59,720 for real estate brokers, who must complete extra schooling, testing, and experience. In 2020, the top 10% of agents made more than $112,410 on average, with some earning far more

To become a licenced real estate salesperson or agent, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be 18 or 19 years old (depends on the state)
  • Have a legal residence in the United States
  • Complete your pre-licensing education requirements.
  • Pass the real estate licensing test in your state.

These elements describe the high-level requirements for becoming a licensed real estate agent. However, there are other decisions you must make along the route that will define your level of real estate success.

The Rest Of The Tips

Never vary from your strategy...unless it's not working despite your best efforts. If that's the case, alter your strategy and stick to it.

Personality is vital, but at the end of the day, this is a numbers game. You'll grow your business if you keep increasing the number of contacts and prospects you have.

Don't waste time searching for the "magic bullet." It's all about having a strategy, sticking to it, and putting in the effort.

In most circumstances, it's best to spend your money on self-promotion rather than buying leads from third-party lead vendors.

You may believe that your name is your business, but unless you want to retire or sell it, you should consider branding your company separately from your name. When you first start your real estate profession, attempt to do it independently of the brokerage with whom you are affiliated.

Real estate is also a business that frequently takes place outside of working hours. Showings are typically held at night or on weekends, so you'll have to adjust to a different work schedule that may or may not suit your lifestyle.

As a real estate agent, a consistent income isn't always achievable. The housing market, the economy, and other factors will all influence your financial performance in any given month. Unlike more typical salaried professions, you won't get paid the same amount every month, so you'll need to budget and save during the quiet seasons.
